Wow...this was beautifully written.

Ah...the sad, lonely life of a sin eater. With Owen, we get a very sympathetic character: he lives alone in a rundown shack, with a few goats and his fiddle. Of the village, there are only three people who treat him like a human - Andras (the town doctor), his ward, Carys (a young woman), and Andra's blacksmith. The rest of the people in town only want and need him when a loved one dies, as he is a pariah...
This young, gorgeous pariah (who has a secret crush) ends up becoming a pawn between two powerful vampires - one good, one evil. All of these guys are hot, of course. lol I won't say anything more, as I don't want to ruin the read for those who are interested.

With that - even though I loved the story, there were a few odd things within it that just didn't fit/work:
* This story takes place in an 1850's Welsh countryside, so what was up with the zombies and hoodoo?
* Referring to one vampire as 'the most powerful vampire in the universe' was a bit of a stretch. He wasn't that ancient, and from what happened to him earlier in the story, he wasn't that much of a Billy bad ass either.
* The sword. It wasn't explained how the sword of a Welsh prince from the 1400's could wield so much power. Was the prince a magician? Was the sword blessed by God? Not a clue.

Still...I loved this story, and I hope there is more to come. What I find odd is that of the few m/m romance/erotica books that I've read, they are better than many of the m/f reads. They are more expressive emotionally and sexually, actually. Not crappy. In this particular book, the sex - which is steamy as hell - doesn't take over the story. Maybe I just lucked out with the m/m books I've chosen.
4.5 stars!

The Sin Eater Prince edition by Keta Diablo Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

Owen is the local sin eater. The people he lives amongst only have need of him when someone has died. They expect him to take those persons sins so that they may go forth into the afterlife. Owen has grown accustomed to his lonely existence. He spends his time waiting for the local physician to call him to his next departing soul. It is the only thing he looks forward to, the local physician summoning him. Owen has become attracted to Andras. Owen knows that wanting the touch of another man is forbidden. He has little care. He knows that the Andras would never desire one as lowly as the sin eater.

Andras has his own secrets. One is that he desires Owen. The biggest secret is that he is a vampire. He has hidden the truth of what he is for five years. After he was attacked and left in the forest to bleed to death he returned to his home and physicians practice. He holds true to the oath he took as a physician to never harm.

I enjoyed the world immensely. The characters believe heavily in their superstitions. The townspeople also fear what they do not understand. When some of the young maidens turn up killed by a viciousness they do not know they quickly seek for a scapegoat in the sin eater. Andras and Owen both know what was responsible for their deaths, but to expose the vampire responsible is to expose Andras. Vampires are not the only creature that needs to be feared. Keta has also woven werewolves and dragons into the mix for this fantastical read.

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review
Owen Rhys is what people call a Sin Eater. When people are on the brink of death they call him in to take their sins away so they can pass with a clean slate. For this he is shunned from society where people cross to the other side of the street and avoid eye contact. Needless to say he has very little contact with people which just breaks my heart. He is helping people out and should be praised for this not looked down upon! I guess it's the whole scared of what he is way of thinking. One thing is for certain, the local doctor and his helper will never ignore Owen. The good doctor knows what it's like to hide who you truly are.

Andras is entranced with Owen. From the first time he laid eyes on him he was hooked. When Owen decides to make the trek home in the middle of the night, Andras gets the bad feeling and sets after him. Finally finding him in the forest, he sees that he is being attacked by a vampire. He does what any other person secretly in love with someone does, attack the thing as if his life depended on it. Even though the vampire is now slain, Andras knows that his son will soon come looking for his father and will attack if they don't leave the area.

Making it back to Owen's cabin, he asks Andras what he really is. Not wanting to lie, he tells him the truth, he is a long tooth, or vampire. Of course he isn't the traditional kind for he does not feed off humans but animals. After taking this all in, Owen is actually completely fine with everything. Actually, it's quite a turn on. Boy do those two burn up the sheets! The sexual energy is on the top of the charts. I am pretty sure anyone who reads this book will agree with me too. ;)

The story was written wonderfully. You can tell that Keta put in a lot of work researching that time period for this book from the dialect to what is traditional in the villages those days. I really enjoyed the connection that Owen and Andras had between the two of them. Oh and I loved that Keta threw in some tongue and cheek between the characters too. Some of the stuff that came out of Owen's mouth made me laugh. It was so refreshing! I am so happy I had the chance to read this wonderful book. Keta has a new fan. )
Very thought provoking - enjoyed.
Just got lost in the feeling of this dark set romance. The trials of life the sin eater accepted, the love of a just man whose own darkness proved his virtue. The sexual chemistry. I would have threw in some lubrication though but really all around just well done.I wish there were a sequel. I love this type of work and keta is first rate.
